@David
Ohhh I get it....
That sounds like a fun office. I`m sure it`s not a typical story, I get bored easily, and right now I`m far from it :) Again, can`t wait `til Friday.

Thanks, David. That's what I was thinking.

Hope no one hammers you for sharing it. :-)

Can't wait to read the next go round. Reading each new chapter is always one of the highlights of my Fridays!

Chapter notes: This chapter was about twice the size of the usual chapters. We debated whether or not to release it whole or simply find a place to cut it. There really was no good place to cut it. Additionally, as said by Lori and Randi, there is a particular challenge to writing in the serialized format.

Books can take time to build characters and have transition scenes between scenes. We don't have quite the same luxury without risking a chapter which bores the audience. Each chapter must deliver something new or that advances the story. So, in this case, we needed to develop the character of John a bit - give him some time with his thoughts and give you a chance to see the internal dialogue running through his head.

So in order to deliver everything we needed to deliver, we simply went with a longer chapter. Thanks to everybody who has commented and is taking the journey with us. This WILL be a novel, there is no doubt in my mind and it's awesome that we can all share this intimate space. It's an honor that you care enough to comment and keep reading.

Marc - Thanks!

janice - thank you.

Rose - Abigail didn't quite touch him. She came close enough to deliver the thoughts to him, but they did not touch. I'm thrilled that you're so excited! You should see my office. I have a stack of notes, charts, character profiles and even some sketches all pertaining to Available Darkness. This is not going to be your typical vampire or horror story by any stretch of the imagination.

DoyouDaveRamsey - Thanks! We're enjoying the process, also.

Lori and Randi - I addressed your comments in the top portion.

Mary Anne - Not sure if I should mention it, or leave it hanging, but Abigail's ability came from her brief encounter with John.

Michael - Thanks for the nice words. Dialogue has always been one of the things which has fallen short in bad online fiction. We aim for the truest voices of the characters and hope never to fall into the cliched. I'm glad it read well as simply dialogue. Sean has been twisting my arm to also develop a script at the same time as we write the book.

Trina - Thank you, you hit on a good word for this, the story and this platform, connectivity. It's a theme I've given an incredible amount of thought to.

I like how this one starts off rather gentle, with a lot of attention to developing the setting and him reflecting on his situation. I knew that the mood was going to change and the transition was very nice. You did not disappoint.

Nice job with all of the dialog. I noticed that you dedicated almost half of this chapter to it. (For grins I deleted everything but the dialog to see how well it moves along. Most of it read like a script!)

You teased my suspicions of John being a vampire last week. An interesting new thread in the story fabric.

And what accounts for Abigail's psychic abilities? Is this a gift she was born with, or...

My mind is gleefully racing.

You guys are awesome and getting better by the week. :-)

I feel like I cheated. I logged on last night at 12:08 a.m. to see if the next chapter was here, and it was! So it wasn't even Friday yet in Sean's world, and I got to read. I felt like one of those people who line up at midnight at Border's when the new Harry Potters came out. I was too sleepy though to comment.

Lori gave me a new insight into serial writing when she mentioned "the lull." She's right--normally in a book, there is that lull, where scenes are set or characters are built. Not much going on, action-wise, but all necessary to the book. With serial writing, you don't have the luxury. Each chapter must insert a new twist or revelation to keep the reader hanging for a whole week, not just hanging for a page or two. Definitely much more of a challenge. Great job, guys.

Now we just need to get faster and faster. I'd love to hit the pace of a TV writer, though of course that's all those dudes do all day long. We've got a million other things to juggle. AD is often the carrot.
